Sidewalk School in Matamoros

PART Houston members met in Meyerland with Felicia and Ray Rod
Sure. They met Felicia Rangel-Samponaro and Ray Rod, an asylum seeker from Cuba who detailed his experience with MPP. He is now in the USA but
worked as one of the camp teachers in Matamoros at the Sidewalk School founded by Felicia. Felicia pays six teachers to give classes five days a week. She pays out of pocket when there are no donations. Teachers earn $10.00 a day. Teaching is a way for them to help others and themselves while they wait for their court date.

Supporting Team Brownsville

PART Houston members Lisa Robinson, Elva Alvarez and Cecilia Estrada traveled to the Rio Grande Valley and crossed into Matamoros, Mexico with Cecilia’s husband Jay and Lisa’s husband Mike to help those seeking asylum to the US. They brought donations such as: soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and distributed them to the families in need. Those donations were collected at Hogg Middle School through an effort coordinated by PART member, Yvonamor Palix, to help benefit Team Brownsville and the Sidewalk School. In addition to the donations, they cooked, served food and taught school to the young children in the camp. They were able to see the conditions the asylum seekers are living in, here are some photos of their trip.

The next planned trips are Memorial and Labor day weekends.

Our Call To Action Continues

Pan American Round Table was established to give aid, comfort and humanitarian relief for those fleeing Mexico because of the Mexican Revolution of 1914. It has become apparent to the Pan-American Round Table of Houston that it is time to go back to the original purpose of our organization by providing humanitarian aid to those who have been allowed to cross to the United States.

Letter from Membership Chair Flor:

Hello hermanas, first of all, I would like to thank you all for the support and donations that you gave from the heart. May God multiply the blessings back to you and your loved ones.
Secondly, the need is still there and I have been asked to inquire about additional donations, specifically of reusable grocery bags. These are used by Team Brownsville to give to people at the bus station in Brownsville essential items in, and I am told that they go through 40 of them a day. If any of you can, please donate some. I looked on amazon and saw a pack of 10 for $16.99 here is the link. If you order them on Amazon you can have them shipped directly to Team Brownsville c/o Sergio Cordova, please contact me at parthmembership@gmail.com for the mailing address or “like” Team Brownsville on Facebook.
BROWNSVILLE: Team Brownsville (TB) was very appreciative of the donations received from the efforts at PART-H as well as the money donation. Sergio at TB stated that he would prefer that people knew where their money is going; therefore, donation of the actual reusable grocery bags will be better than actual cash.
MCALLEN: The respite center in McAllen is in need of items specifically as listed in the attached form.
They currently are seeking volunteers to do just that in McAllen: sort donated clothing. If that is you or you know someone in McAllen who can volunteer for this non-glamourous but very necessary job, please email me at parthmembership@gmail.com to get their contact information.

For the adults they MOSTLY need medium and small size clothing.
When you travel, bring those unused hotel toiletries! The McAllen Respite Center can definitely use them.
If you choose to purchase via amazon, donations can be sent directly to them. Please email me at parthmembership@gmail.com for the address.
If you choose to donate items locally, our member Belinda Kaylani will be able to accept this donations. Please email her for details on location and time available at belindakaylani@gmail.com

We are looking for a donated vehicle for this trip and time from anyone who can drive the truck from Houston to McAllen. The truck Needed is a panel/box truck like this one:

On behalf of the recipients, mil gracias.
